Polycom Becomes HP’s Telepresence Solutions Provider

Polycom, a unified communications leader, has recently closed its acquisition of HP’s Visual Collaboration business under the agreement that Polycom will serve as an exclusive partner to HP video conferencing solutions. This includes both internal HP deployments and resale. This acquisition doubles Polycom’s market share and strengthens Polycom’s leadership in the unified communications video market. The market is growing rapidly as small to large enterprises are using telepresence solutions all over the world as a strategic and cost effective means of improving productivity. Aside from HP, Polycom also works in a large, diverse channel community that represents multiple roles to the market including value added reseller, distribution partners, systems integrators, and service providers. Polycom is still committed to open standards and a 100% channel orientation remains the same.

Partnership of Polycom and HP

The two companies agreed to make enterprise-grade video applications of Polycom available to HP’s webOS platform. This is to keep Polycom’s commitment in enabling mobile unified communications as a key element in its UC Everywhere vision. Polycom states its excitement in closing the deal and expresses their warm welcome for Halo customers. Polycom also stated that they are looking forward to their partnership with HP and offer end to end UC solutions to customers. They will do this by providing unparalleled user experience, industry’s best TCO, open standard based interoperability, ease of deployment, and investment protection via backwards and forwards compatibility as stated by Polycom President and CEO, Andrew Miller. Miller also added that HP has an enormous global reach and by broadening their relationship with this company, they can meet Polycom’s commitment to bring advanced and innovative UC solutions to the market.

Polycom and HP also share a strategic ally to Microsoft and they believed that together, their combined offerings will provide benefits and value to customers worldwide. By acquiring HP, Polycom strengthens its leadership position in the telepresence and UC market by bringing HP’s technology and installed base of visual collaboration products. Of course, the acquisition includes the asset of HP visual collaboration business which includes managed services business and Halo products. Polycom welcomes HP’s current customers and promised to deliver uninterrupted support and services by providing the same service level agreements and quality of experience that customers expect and used to enjoy. Polycom is now making its move to provide interoperability between open standards UC systems, Halo deployments, and Polycom telepresence systems.
